Broadway’s Nathaniel Hackmann Brings Sokrates Back to Life in Hellenika, a Groundbreaking New Musical Exploring How Democracy Can Be Saved

Hellenika, a new musical set during the Golden Age of Athens, is unveiling its second track, "Ignorance”, performed by Broadway star Nathaniel Hackmann. The musical chronicles the final 33 years of Sokrates’ life, examining the timeless themes of justice, power, rhetoric, and truth.
Hackmann, known for his role as Biff Tannen in Broadway’s Back To The Future: The Musical, brings his powerful baritone voice to the role, perfectly capturing Sokrates’ internal conflict as he confronts the limits of his knowledge.
“The song “Ignorance” is a defining moment for Sokrates in Hellenika,” explains creator Kyle Thomas Hanneken. “It launches him on his intellectual journey, highlighting the humility it takes to admit what we don’t know.”
Why Release Songs Before the Musical’s Full Debut?
“The opening number “Wonder” is an introduction to the show’s core themes: leadership, justice, and the fragility of democracy,” Hanneken continues. “Releasing these songs early allows audiences to connect with the musical’s subject matter while providing a sneak peek into the score. It helps build anticipation and attract collaborators to help bring the full production to life.”
